About Tessera
A tessera is a single small tile — the unit a mosaic is built from. It seemed the right name for a website that exists to explain a category one piece at a time.
Why this website exists
Sweepstakes entertainment is explained badly almost everywhere. Some sources describe it as gambling, which it is not. Others describe it as free, which is only half true. Most skip the one thing that actually matters — that there are two virtual currencies doing two entirely different jobs, and that the whole structure depends on a free entry route existing.
Tessera was established in 2026 to set that out plainly, in language that matches what the brands' own official rules say rather than what their marketing implies.
What we do
- Explain how the dual-currency model works, in detail and without euphemism.
- Set out the eligibility position across US states and Canadian provinces, and flag how fast it moves.
- Describe how the model looks at individual brands, and what to check before registering with any of them.
- Publish the free entry routes as prominently as the paid ones, because the rules treat them as equal.
What we do not do
- We do not host any casino-style entertainment.
- We do not distribute virtual currency of any kind.
- We do not process payments or hold accounts.
- We do not offer cash, cash-equivalent credits, or prizes that can be sold or traded for money.
- We do not accept user-generated content — there are no comments, forums, ratings or uploads anywhere on this website, and every word here is written and checked by our editorial desk.
How this is funded
Tessera may receive a commission when someone registers with a brand through a link on this website. That is the entire commercial model, it is disclosed alongside every such link, and it does not influence what we write or the order in which brands appear. See Disclosure for the full terms.
Our editorial position on the category
We think this is a legitimate form of entertainment that is frequently described dishonestly — in both directions. It is not gambling, and pretending it is helps nobody. It is also not a route to income, and any framing that hints otherwise is one we will not use. What it is, is a leisure activity built on virtual currency and promotional mechanics, with real time — and sometimes real spending — attached to it.
That last part is why every page here carries the same marks: 18 or over, play for fun only, no cash prizes, no purchase necessary. Not because a rulebook requires it, though one does, but because it is accurate.
